 | Public cord blood banks further research into medical treatments using umbilical cord blood stem cells and make available donated cord blood stem cells for use in transplants of non-relatives. Public cord blood banks do not provide a link between your baby and your baby's donated cord blood unit. They serve patients who need an allogeneic transplant but do not have a matching family member. Privately stored cord blood provides the only guarantee that you will be able to access your own child’s blood in the future should you, your child, or another family member need it. When you save your baby's umbilical cord blood with a private cord blood bank no one else is entitled to access and utilize that cord blood without your permission.
